More details to this question:
So I’m 20 years old I was caught at Jcpenny with items worth of 200 dollars and they have me on camera plus called the police they took down my information made me sign papers but didn’t arrest me. A few days ago I got a Civil Demand letter saying I have to pay the 200 but I just ignored it and now I’ve received a letter for a court date in 2 weeks. What should I do if I can’t afford an attorney? And when I go to court should I plead guilty or not since they already have me on camera???? If I plead guilty will I go to jail ? I’m seriously starting to panic can someone help me please

If you had a serious medical condition, would you accept the advice of a doctor in an identical scenario as to whether you should have surgery.   The civil demand letter is independent of any criminal court action.   If the judge finds you indigent, then the judge will, most likely, appoint you counsel  who can examine the evidence, apply the legal analysis and advise you
