My son is receiving a 120 day review in prison what does this mean? He is convicted of a violent crime and was sentenced to 8 years (85 %) Does this mean he might be released early?

Your son will serve 85% (minimum) of his sentence, unless at the review the court decides to modify his case. This seems unlikely for an 85% case involving violence.
