QUESTION

What happens with a petty theft 1st degree misdemeanor?

Asked on Mar 23rd, 2017 on Criminal Law - Ohio
More details to this question:
Arrested for $210 of merchandise. Jailed and paid bond, left with a court date. I am first time offender with a perfect record, never have even been pulled over before. When/how do I get a public defender/lawyer? I have very little money but my family may be able to help. I live about an hour away from where I had been arrested so I'm not sure if I look at lawyers near me or near where I go for court. Will I have to serve jail time? What is the most likely outcome for this situation? Are there any chances to have this dissolved through paying fines/fees and community service or take special rehab classes pertaining to the crime? Scared and have no idea where to go from here.
