What is the difference between preponderance of evidence and beyond a reasonable doubt?

Is it possible for someone to be found liable of a Tort but be found "not guilty" of the same crime?

Different levels of proof, crimes are more difficult to prove that civil liabilities, so the answer is yes. To see a prime example Google O J Simpson, not guilty for murder, civilly liable, however.
