QUESTION

What is the worst possible outcome and what should I do to avoid such criminal record?

More details to this question:
I was caught shoplifting with almost a $100 worth of clothes and it’s my first offense. I was not alone. I was with my cousin who is 16 years old, and I’m 18. I took the blame because I do not want him getting involved. I know that it’s a stupid act. I only did it because I couldn’t afford anything. I don’t have the money to afford an attorney either so I might have 100% losing to the prosecutor. It was an honest mistake of mine. Plus my court case is in 2 months. I have not told my family either because I don’t want them involved to my stupidity. I will face the consequences and accept the maximum payment by the judge and hopefully he shows mercy.

You should hire a lawyer and get this relatively minor charge dismissed. By yourself you're going to get a criminal record, and it isn't worth it.
