More details to this question:
My nephew was recently arrested for felony drug possession. With the economy the way it is, money is tight. How can we help? Will a public defender be good enough?
Like everything else in life, there are extremely good and extremely bad public defenders. The main difference is that unlike a private attorney, you cannot fire your public defender and request a new one.
I would advise calling a lawyer on any felony case. A felony conviction can have a lifetime impact on a person in employment and can result in years in prison.
