What steps do I take to have my record expunged?

More details to this question:
I've been told that I need to fill out a form for record expungement or to have a lawyer in order to get a misdemeanor off of my record. I was 17 at the time, now 19 and looking to have this removed and move forward with my life. I'm very confused as to what this process consists of and how much it will cost me.
