Asked on Apr 04th, 2012 on Criminal Law - Arizona
More details to this question:
I'm being accused of theft for property that belonged to my ex boyfriend. I didn't take his things. I have court this month and don't know what to expect. I did tell him and the cop on phone. I didn't have stuff and the cop said he had texts. The text said that "I understood he needed his things if he now wanted to meet to talk to the cop that has enough evidence I stole from him. I said no no no I don't have his things. What will happen what should I do?

As you were not specific in where you were summoned, I must assume it was the Superior Court and you are currently facing felony charges. As you do not indicate the level of the felony, I can only advise you that a conviction for any felony may result in probation that could include up to a year in jail OR prison. The length of the prison term is based on the level of the felony. You must appear as summoned. If you can afford to retain counsel, you should consider doing so. If not, a public defender will be appointed when you go to court.
