QUESTION

What would the charge be if we pick up items which are apparently reported stolen?

More details to this question:
If you find several items such as 3 wood boards with numbers on them, on the side of a road and your friend picks them up and tells you to take them to his room so you do. Later they are in his car in plain sight during a car accident. Police see the signs and say they were reported stolen. But we did not steal these items. The total value does not exceed $300. What can happen if we all have no priors, straight edge students in college?

Either Larceny or Possession of Stolen Property, as misdemeanors, since you say the value does not exceed $300.00.
