When is it worthwhile to contest a citation for a red light violation?

More details to this question:
I tried to stop at a red light intersection in Richmond Heights, OH, but slid into/through it due to wet/icy road conditions. The officer checked pavement conditions as "dry", "wet" and "icy" on the citation.

It can be adventageous to contest a moving violation solely for the purpose of keeping insurance costs down. Obtaining points on your license can make the insurance premium raise hundreds of dollars per year. So it may be worthwile.
