QUESTION

When was probable cause for a search established?

Asked on Feb 24th, 2014 on Drug Crimes - New Jersey
More details to this question:
The police drove up on me and some friends. There was a smell of marijuana in the car from a little while before they drove up. They told us to put our hands up. My arms could not fully extend and were uncomfortable so I momentarily took one down for a few seconds. The first time my elbow was resting on my leg and my hand was still in the air. The second time, my arm was laying on my leg and my palm was facing up. At this point the officer told me to get out of the car and searched me. They found a dime bag of marijuana. Was the search justified?
