More details to this question:
Who can access my sealed juvenile records? Someone received a copy of the complaint from something I was charged with at 14. This is supposed to be sealed. How can random people of the public receive a copy of the actual complaint? Is there anyone I can contact to find out how this complaint was released to the public?
In Colorado, if you had a petition filed against you and received a deferred judgment or completed the terms of a probationary sentence and the case was dismissed by the court does not mean that the information was automatically sealed. You must file a separate petition to seal the action. If you did not do this than the record is still searchable. I would recommend looking into the court file and/or record to determine if you still need to seal the record or if there is a error in the sealing process. A local attorney would be able to assist you in this process.
Juvenile records are not automatically sealed. In order to seal them you have to petition the juvenile court to seal them. Five years after they are sealed they are automatically sealed. Yours truly Eric Sterkenburg Attorney and Counselor at Law.
