Why is he still in jail if the DA dropped the charges?

More details to this question:
My boyfriend’s charges were dropped but his PO put a petition. They wanted to give him 180 days. He didn’t take it because he didn’t do anything. His charges were for ammunition which he didn’t have. He is on probation when this happened. But they found nothing on him.

This happens all the time. It?s easier to prove a probation violation than a new charge.
