Why is the FTA bail worth $500,000?

More details to this question:
My fiance was arrested last week for FTA he is held for Drug Possession with Intent to distribute his bail is $500,000 I don't understand why his bail is so high. We have a paid lawyer and I ask why his bail is so high he says let me look into it. It has been a week and the bail is still high.

That is because the judge did not like him not appearing that is why the bail is high.

Probably because your fiancรฉ is being charged with a felony and because of his failure to appear in court, he is considered a flight risk.

Bail is determined by the pending charges, past criminal history and the likelihood of the defendant to appear.

Your fiancee should consult with the lawyer he hired. For your information, there is a procedure which is an application filed with the Court to reduce the bond after holding a hearing addressing the points identified in the Louisiana Code of Criminal Procedure. The purpose of bail is to insure the presence of the defendant, not penalize someone presumed innocent by law up to the time of a jury of judge finding them guilty after trial.
