QUESTION

Will a restraining order show up in my background check?

Asked on Aug 05th, 2013 on Criminal Law - Illinois
More details to this question:
So about 4 months ago, I popped a friend's tire. She called the police, I didn't get charged, I paid for the tire, and she put an emergency protection order on me for 6 months. My question is mainly, will this be on my employee background check? Is there any way I can get it off if it is? And third question is, can she extend it once the 6 months is up if I have stayed away from her? I am 20, female, and in Chicago, Illinois. I have no previous criminal record.

Yes, a background check will show the restraining order. States differ on what may be expunged off their record, so you will need to talk to the court clerk or go online to review the statute and obtain the necessary form.

It will likely show up. You may be able to challenge it though.
