QUESTION

Will I receive a ticket or summons in the mail?

Asked on Apr 22nd, 2012 on Criminal Law - Louisiana
More details to this question:
I was recently walking in New Orleans when an officer grabbed me and searched me after being asked what I just bought from the person who walked away from me. I was then searched and the officer found a small amount of marijuana in my pocket (which was in my possession prior to the encounter with the aforementioned stranger). I then walked to the police station with the officer (not handcuffed) and was brought into an office. After being asked a few questions and waiting for a response from a higher ranking officer, I was then released from the station and was off on my own ways. The officer had told me on the walk there that I would be receiving a ticket and not going to jail. I did not receive a ticket while I was in the station or after I left. Will I be sent anything in the mail or is it a done deal?

I don't know, but it sounds like you'll be getting a notice of arraignment some time in the future.

You shouldn't. But, out of an abundance of caution, you may want to check with New Orleans Municipal Court in a few weeks to confirm that no misdemeanor affidavits/summons have been filed in connection with this matter.
