Will my boyfriend be arrested for something he didn't do?

More details to this question:
My boyfriend got picked up by his cousin to go to the mall and on their way back, they seen cops lurking on them. His cousin started panicking so my boyfriend asked and his cousin said that wasn't his car and that he had stolen it. Shortly after they got pulled over, my boyfriend has a court date. I'm so terrified that he will go to jail.
