Will shoplifting charge show on my background check if all I got was a ticket and I paid the fine?

More details to this question:
I am over 21. I got caught walking out of a club with a twelve pack of pop a year ago. This is my first offense and I haven't done it since. I was given a ticket by an officer, went to court, paid the fine, and was told by the attorney present that by paying the fine it would go away. I'm now up for a job and wondering how much truth there is to that. Any advice will help.
Typically if you simply pay a fine, that includes a guilty plea and a permanent record. I don't know if that's what happened in your case or if you got a special deal. I would be able to look it up if you give me a quick phone call. In any case, you would benefit from something called expungement. The Legislature passed a brand new expungement law this year that might benefit you greatly.
