QUESTION

Can I do anything about my apartment complex not notifying me before sending my fine to collections?

Asked on Sep 23rd, 2014 on Collections - Florida
More details to this question:
My old apartment complex sent me a notification that said I had 7 days to pay back a fine else my fine would be handed over to collections. I got that notification in the mail (unverified mail) 1 month after the 7 days was up. Meaning I could not in any way prevent them from sending it to collections. They had multiple other ways to contact me, phone and email. They failed to do so. Anything I can do? Seems like an illegal practice to me. I live in FL.

This fact pattern makes little sense as it seems that you are a former tenant but the 7 day issue suggests a present tenancy. As a general rule, it is not thier duty to contact and give you "one last chance" to pay what you owe, though many do it outof convenience or courtesy. If you have other questions, please fee free to contact our office at 1-800-922-6442 for a FREE consultation.
