do i need to pay for a murchant after 2 years of no respons?

i signed up for gym 2 years ago & i havents received any respond about making a payment & i cancelled the account few days later in that year & all the sudden i hear from collection about making payments after 2 years, am i responsible to make a payments after 2 yrs past since the account was closed that yer?
