QUESTION

garnishment

Asked on Sep 26th, 2013 on Collections - New York
More details to this question:
a couple of months ago I entered into an informal agreement with forster and garbus for a credit card I owed. The entire point of the agreement was for me not to get garnished but a couple of months later low and behold that's exaclty what happened. I called both F&G and the garnishment representative but they were both very unhelpful. In the end, I decided to keep paying F&G the agreed amount but I've always been nervous about it. The thing is, I already have a garnishment on my account for another bill so the credit card one hasn't been taken out yet, my fear is that I'll finish paying F&G and I'll still owe the garnishment one. Since technically the bill is with them now. I guess my question is, what exactly should I do? I really don't want to be paying for this credit card twice.

Make certain you obtain a Satisfaction of Judgment once it has been paid off. In the alternative, you can stop making payments and they must wait until the prior judgment enforcement is completed.  Understand that you must pay an extra 5% for wage garnishment.
