QUESTION

How to recover more than $5,000 owed?

Asked on Apr 03rd, 2014 on Collections - Florida
More details to this question:
A tenant owes more than $5,000 dollars of past due rent. They have since been evicted. How to I recover this past due rent? What do I need to do to file this recovery claim, since I am unable to do so in small claims court? The court said I need to file a form, but would not tell me which one. I am in circuit 8 of Florida.

You can sue for less than 5k, if you want small claims, so anything above that you will just forfeit. As a practical matter, you will spend dollars chasing dimes, so your better bet is to use the  money you will spend chasing the 5k to hire a lawyer to help you protect yourself better in the future.
