More details to this question:
I am being called about a payday loan that I did not pay back, allegedly. The third party company cannot give me an exact amount, name of original lender, but can only give me a date range (not specific date), settlement amount, and an account number. I went up and down my bank statements, including calling my back with the account number given to me and I cannot find anything. I've done payday loans years ago and paid all of them back, so I'm not sure if this is legit. Court/wage garnishment is being threatened. Are they allowed to withhold the loan amount, date, and lender from me? I can't confirm this is legit without that information.

This is likely a scam though you may need to hire a lawyer to get a better handle on this. In the mean time I would retain a security exper to help you deal with a likely ID theft issue.
