I rented to own a computer from Rent King in Florida, I believe Pinellas County. I lost my job due to health issues and they agreed to $350.00 from about 800.00. I was waited for my income tax and or my disability check, which ever came first to pay off. My ex husband and I had a dispute, he was arrested and went to jail, and while in jail I filed for divorce. I notice some items (including the computer) were missing after the incident. I reported the event to the police and filed a supplement report. Now Rent King wants to turn this over to the State Attorney or processing. I had another seizure Sunday, and explained to Rent King my financial situation, with waiting on the IRS and my disability claim status and promised I would pay it. What can I do to protect myself. Is there a warrant, can I have a friend start making payments, to Rent King or to the County. What are my rights, I am sick with seizures, in the hospital right now and am stressed out of my mind.. 727-945-48
In general, they may simply not believe what they may view as a convenient "theft" story. When you have a rent to own item, and you stop paying, if you dont return the item on demand or pay all that is owed, they will typically swear out an affidavit with the state attorney who will issue a warrant for your arrest under 812.155. If you can't sort it out with them in advance, you may simply have to deal with the criminal charges if they get filed and work with your attorney or public defender to address the issue. The alternative is to find the computer and return it immeidately.
