Promissory note lawsuit

Asked on Jan 10th, 2014 on Collections - Florida
More details to this question:
I received document this week of a lawsuit file against myself for a promissory note debt, the amount of the note is 15K , at that time in 2009 I was in a difficult finance position so they accepted a payment of $100 a month, after more than $3.5k paid over three years , I found out that i was in debt more than the original debt so decide to discontinued payment, I tried to settle but they do not accepted any offer less than $17.5k which is the amount of the original debt plus interest and legal fee minus what I paid. Please your advice on this matter and what would be my options, do I have any chances to fight this in court or should I look for alternatives such as bankrupt? Thank you.

If you want legal advice about your rights in a lawsuit, you will have to hire a lawyer to get that. There is no way anyone on internet can provide even basic advice without all the details.
