QUESTION

Redacting Information on Personal Bank Statements

Asked on Jun 21st, 2013 on Collections - Florida
More details to this question:
My mother has had a judgment entered against her for approximately $6,500 from a credit card default several years ago. The judge ordered her to fill out a Fact Information Sheet that is to include copies of her last three bank statements. Is she allowed to redact (which is to say, black out) the descriptions of each transaction while still leaving the total deposit/debit amount visible? I understand they want to see how much money is going in and out of her account, but is it any of their business how much she spends at the supermarket or where she buys gas?

Not likely, and not without court approval. The whole purpose of the FIS and post judgment discovery is to locate money and things to seize to satisfy the judgment.
