More details to this question:
My daughter was being abused by her biological father as a baby. I took her to Mexico until she was 18. I turned myself in to the authorities, pleaded no contest (to save my daughter from more anguish of a trial), and was sentenced to the minimum for child concealment, a felony. Upon my release, I was subsequently called to a victims compensation hearing as a defendent against the father/abuser. After the father ingored two subpeonas from the judge, the judge decided (without any evidence of expenses) that any parent would spend about $5,000 per year looking for their child (in fact, he boasted earning $400/hour at microsoft at the hearing, but only offered a $1000 reward for his daughter in his wanted poster.), for a total of $80,000, in 2006. This has now balloned to almost $200,000. I would like to negotiate a settlement in this case, if possible, please.

Is the money required to be paid to your husband or the state? Have you made any attempt to resolve this?
