A lawyers fee must be reasonable. You should sit down with your lawyer and ask for a detailed statement showing the hours worked on your case in detail.  You have the right to fire your lawyer and hire any new lawyer that you choose. There are many reasons why legal fees in a divorce can be very high, including extensive discovery, motion hearings, mediations, etc. All this can drive up the cost. You  need to have a frank discussion with your lawyer about fees and make sure your lawyer understands your concerns and ability to pay.
