More details to this question:
We have decided to have a DIY divorce but already initiated the divorce with a lawyer. The complaint has been filed with the court. Now that it has been filed, can we it was filed, can we terminate the lawyer, have him deduct all his incurred fees and then continue on our own with the divorce complaint? We have gone through several checklists that state we can do a simple divorce with minor children that agree on all the terms.

Yes. Just contact the lawyer and tell him or her what you want to do. He or she will have to be formally allowed out of the case by the judge, but that should not be a big deal. Good Luck.
