I have a divorce lawyer and we are trying to go for an uncontested divorce first. My Husband wrote her telling her x ,y, and z. He asked no questions he just went off on a tangent (which is typical of him) She emailed him back saying "you are free to retain a lawyer, if you do not file a notice of appearance in the specific time frame we will seek a default divorce. She said And you are free to presue for any relief desire after. I think she gave him legal advise and is trying to make it contested so i pay more. She should have said im her lawyer your free to retain a lawyer for your needs or questions. But then she sends me an email which I think proves she is dropping hints so he contests it and so i have to pay more. She wrote me a few minutes after she sent him that ..."If mr. Soandso does retain a lawyer or files a notice of appearance it will no longer be a uncontested divorce and an additional retainer will be required. Please let me know you thought about this.
In my view it's not harming your case - it's merely stating a fact. I can see how you would be concerned - but your lawyer has to handle things carefully in dealing with someone who is pro se.
