How do I find out if I am still legally married?

More details to this question:
I married a man from another country in 2001, nine months into the marriage he told me that he married me to get a green card in this country. I got scared and left him in Dallas and came home to Ohio. How do I find out if I am still legally married? Thank You I would like to get re-married.
