How fast can I get a quick divorce done in California?

More details to this question:
We have no assets to divide between us. We have no minor children and no cars. There is nothing. Itโ€™s about as simple as it can get.

You can file and complete the process within a couple of months. You cannot be a single person, and eligible to remarry, for 6 months and 1 day after the other side is served with the papers.

You should see if the summary dissolution procedure would work for you. You can get the information sheet from the clerk's office or online with other Judicial Counsel forms.

The judgment can be entered as soon as the Respondent has been served and the parties sign an agreement for a judgment. However, even though the judgment is entered, marital status cannot terminate until at least 6 months has passed since the Respondent was served. Parties are not able to re-marry until marital status has terminated.

All divorces in California take at least six months from the date the other side is served with papers. If there is no property or children, you two can file a joint petition which does make things easier but it doesn't cut down the six month requirement.

How long were you married? If less than 2 years, you might qualify for an uncontested disso which could save you a $435 filing fee, and get you a judgment 6 months after the paperwork is submitted; 6 months is the absolute minimum time a judgment takes.
