How long can you be divorced to ask for spousal support?

My friend have been divorced with her husband for 15 years and is having trouble with her kids and living situation.

My suggestion is that your friend look into the court record and read the final judgment. The final judgment will reflect the alimony decision. If your friend wants to modify that decision then your friend will have to return to court on a motion to modify.

Once the divorce is final, the ability to claim alimony goes away if it was not claimed to begin with.
