I have to answer a question with a question...do you play chess? Well, how long does a chess game take? The answer to both questions is, "it depends." It depends on the skill of the players and the moves of each player.
There are many factors that account for how long a divorce takes from start to finish. In general it depends:
1) On the complexity of the case;
2) On the cooperation between the parties AND their lawyers in following court imposed deadlines and supplying documents in a timely fashion
3) How badly one...or both of the parties want to fight and waste money rather than work on a solution.
4) How backlogued the courts are
I have completed divorces in about a month (where parties were all in agreement and everyone knew what the other had and made), and I have had cases that linger for several years.
If you are comtemplating a divorce I sincerely hope you will be in the "less time" category, as that means there is cooperation, a resolution and not as much wasted money.
Best of luck,
