I recently divorced and in the divorce, I retained the house. However, the house was financed in both our names. He has filed for bankruptcy. I was left with all the debt from the marriage and refinancing at this time is not an option.

His filing of bankruptcy should not affect your retention of the house so long as you are not behind in your payments.

Did he have an obligation to pay half the debt? If so, that debt to you is not discharged. If he did not agree to pay half, you are still obligated to pay the mortgage in order to keep the house.

See an attorney but generally his liability to the CREDITORS, including the bank on the mortgage could be extinguished by his bankruptcy leaving you the sole remaining debtor on what were joint liabilities. However, even after the bankruptcy he may be liable to you under the divorce judgment for the damages caused to you if hi did not pay his obligations under it. Call for an appointment, exposition of the fact and firm advice.
