QUESTION

Is my second marriage valid after divorcing my first wife?

Asked on Mar 05th, 2015 on Divorce - New Jersey
More details to this question:
I got married overseas while still married to my first wife (who is American and lives in New Jersey). I asked my first wife if she wanted a divorce, but she continued living with me while knowing about my second wife. Eventually I've divorced my first wife a year ago. Is my second marriage considered valid now, or do I have to remarry my second wife? I'm US citizen, my second wife is not American.

This is a very unique question.  I think your second marriage would not technically be valid because at the time that marriage was conducted, you were already married.  Therefore, I do not believe that going back and correcting the issue by later becoming divorced will work, but the real issue is whether or not you recognize thatsecond marriage.
