What can a person do to stop a divorce?

More details to this question:
My bro-in-law came to me for help because he got a subpoena to appear in court because a female co-worker pis getting a divorce. he said she asked her once before to be her reference, but he said no. he does not even know her well. she is just an acquaintance because he sees her occasionally at work. he does not even remember her name, but now there is a subpoena for him to appear in court. van this be stopped? can he just plead the 5th in court because he does not want to get involve in her divorce case which he has no connection at all? can he force her lawyer to rescind the subpoena?

If he fails to appear, he could be held in contempt of court and jailed. He cannot get the subpoena reversed. But he can call the attorney's office and tell them that he has no relevant knowledge about the case.

He should call the attorney who subpoenaed him and tell him that he does not even know the woman. Perhaps if he lets the attorney know that he does not know anything about the woman, he will be released from the subpoena. But if he gets released, have him get that confirmed in writing from the attorney who issued the subpoena.
