QUESTION

What do we need to take to a lawyer who will represent both parties?

Asked on Dec 03rd, 2013 on Divorce - New York
More details to this question:
We would like to keep this as inexpensive as possible by doing as much work ourselves as we can and only hiring a lawyer to file documents, etc. What should we prepare and present to a lawyer? (in other words, something similar to what a mediator would prepare, but without the mediator).

A lawyer can not represent both parties in a divorce. That having been said if you present an outline of your agreement on all issues (economic division, custody and child support) a single attorney, representing one of you, can draw up the papers. It would always be prudent to have a second attorney (representing the other person) review the documents before filing.
