Asked on Jan 28th, 2013 on Divorce - Michigan
More details to this question:
My step daughter has been the victim of domestic assault/violence over the last couple months. Last time, the police came to her and husband threatened to kill her if she talked, and has continued to threaten her since. We have her and the kids with us. We have pics of her bruises from last assault at Christmas time. What is the time limit to file charges?

If she felt threatened and couldn't file then file now. Also she should go to circuit court and het a PPO. Then he goes to jail for ding anything including threatening her.

You can certainly file charges now, especially if you have evidence such as pictures. Many battered and beaten women are afraid to make a report because they somehow blame themselves for the abuse, or they fear the threats of worse treatment in the future. Neither is valid and give the batterer license to do more. Call the police, report the incident and be aware that if the process is started it will continue even if your daughter has a change of heart.
