QUESTION

Where can I file for divorce after moving?

Asked on Jul 30th, 2014 on Divorce - California
More details to this question:
I have lived in California all my life and moved to North Carolina after getting married. I was in North Carolina for four months before leaving just one week ago. Is it possible for me to file for divorce in California as I never permanently resided in North Carolina, and always planned on living in California permanently (this is 100% true, I just didn't plan on a divorce at the same time). Do I have to file in North Carolina? And if so, since I just moved back to CA, does that mean I can't file anywhere yet?

You must be a resident of California in order to file here i.e. you must live here for at least 6 consecutive months while in the county for at least 3 months.  I am unsure as to what the rules in North Carolina are--you may wish to speak to an attorney in that state to see if you can file there.
