QUESTION

Can I move out of state before completing the DUI offenders class?

Asked on May 22nd, 2014 on DUI/DWI - California
More details to this question:
I had two DUI cases, one in 2007 and one in 2008. The cases we combined and I was ordered to go to the multiple offendersโ€™ class. I enrolled myself into rehab, with the courts approval, graduated and ended up staying in another state until the present time. The state would not allow me to complete the offendersโ€™ program because the charges were from another state. I just got a job offer and I would like to move back. Will I be allowed to get a license and will I still have to complete the class this many years later?

Nope. DMV will never recognize an out-of-state program. And most other states will respect California's decision to keep your license suspended in perpetuity. Plus, you will be in violation of probation if you don't complete the program, and a warrant will be issued for your arrest.

California will require that you complete the DUI classes. Without completing the classes your CDL will remain suspended. Should you get caught driving on a suspended CDL because of an alcohol related offense you would be looking at a fine and mandatory 10 days jail. It does not make a difference to DMV how old the DUI is. DMV wants you to enroll and complete the DUI classes.
