QUESTION

Can we take our son off our insurance to keep our policy?

Asked on Dec 14th, 2015 on DUI/DWI - Michigan
More details to this question:
My son received a DUI and was on our policy. The Insurance company has sent us a letter saying they are dropping us. Can we take him off our insurance and keep our policy or do we have to have him on our insurance while he is living in our house? Are there any laws that say the insurance company can't drop us if we were to sign something that states we will not allow him to drive our cars?

There is no reason to be loyal to any particular insurance company, they are all bad. Use this as an opportunity to shop around. No, your son does not have to be on your policy. And yes, you can name your son as an excluded driver on your policy so his age and conviction will not be used against you, but if you that, he CANNOT drive the car, EVER, if he does, and causes damage or hurts himself or someone else, you will NOT be covered by insurance.
