I live in Denver, Colorado. My brother got stopped about a month ago and has a court hearing next week. He doesn't want to pay a lawyer because he heard about a public defender. He wants to know what's more helpful, a public defender or a lawyer?

PDs are great but some cases need a good DUI lawyer like me.

A person does not have a right to "use" a public defender if they want to. Public defenders are only available to those that qualify, based on income. The public defenders in Colorado have many cases and are very good attorneys. There recourse's should go to those that are indigent, not those that don't want to pay for an attorney.
