More details to this question:
I just found out I have an arrest warrant in California thatโ€™s about 8 years old now for a failure to appear. I donโ€™t live there anymore and I was wondering what I should do to take care of that without having to travel to California.

The only possible way to resolve the issue would be to hire a lawyer to appear for you. Some judges require your personal appearance to withdraw the warrant.

You should hire a lawyer to go to court to recall the warrant. A lawyer can do this without you present if it is a misdemeanor, so it is less risky for you.
