QUESTION

What will happen next and how much would it cost for DUI ticket?

Asked on Feb 26th, 2014 on DUI/DWI - California
More details to this question:
I was drunk, not even drinking driving at all. I actually pull over myself because I ran out of gas and cry for help on the street. Residents couldn't help me at all. Next thing, CHP show up and arrest me for DUI.

I am assuming that you received an Notice to Appear with the date, time and name of court where you are to appear. At the 1st court appearance you will be arraigned which means that you will be told what the charges are against you and you will enter a plea of either guilty, not guilty or no contest. If by "how much would it cost for DUI ticket" you are asking how much an attorney charges, there is no set fee schedule for how much an attorney charges for his or her services. All attorneys charge differently depending on their experience, locality, complexity of the case, etc. I suggest that you interview a number of attorneys and retain the one you feel most comfortable with and can afford.

Unfortunately, the best defense in a situation like this is that someone else drove you there and left trying to find gas. The other option is that you drank at the scene where you were stopped, empty bottles or cans would help. Fine is close to $2,000. There is a minimum of 2 days jail, DUI school, at least 3 years probation and this will be a prior conviction for 10 years if you are charged with another DUI. Of course, your insurance will rise also.

The CHP estimates that DUI conviction can cost as much as $20,000. You need to fight this. The DA will have a hard time proving when you drove so they will have a hard time proving you were drunk while you drove.

You need to hire a DUI specialist, and do it soon because you have only 10 days to save your license.
