QUESTION

What's the point in having assessments done beforehand?

Asked on Feb 16th, 2013 on DUI/DWI - Michigan
More details to this question:
With being charged with a refusal to blow for a DUI, I was recommended by lawyer free consultations to have a chemical assessment done before the initial court hearing. Does this help when negotiating a plea? My results from the chemical assessment where recommended to attend an 8-hour DUI class.

The reason is that the court will force you to have an assessment and if you already have done it and started whatever they recommend. then it looks good in court.

A good, experienced DUI attorney knows what he's doing and will have a good reason for whatever he asks you to do. It could be for a variety of reasons. It could be so he has an idea how your assessment will turn out as well as helping your prepare for the one you will eventually take with the court. It could also be so that if you have a really good assessment that it could be used as leverage in the plea bargaining stage to get a better deal.

Nope, absolutely useless. You need to talk to a DUI specialist my friend, and do it soon because you have only 10 days to save your license.
