QUESTION

Retention

Asked on Jun 01st, 2016 on Education Law - Florida
More details to this question:
I have a big concern with the school my son is currently attending. My son is currently in 2nd grade and He has made honors all year long except in term three and I received a letter from the school last week stating that my son is being retained. The teacher passed my son but the principle feel as though he will not succeed on the 3rd grade FCAT so she feels he need to be retained due to that fact and has made he retention mandatory can she do that what are my rights? His current teacher is actually resigning after this year due to the principle doing this to other students as well.

I think you should definitely consult with a Florida education attorney. There is a Florida statutue regarding retention and steps that must be followed before a school can do that.
