My mother fell last winter. She only had Medicare but 3 months in NJ nursing home with 2-3 weeks of private pay was costly. Sinxe then I have been able to keep her at home, but only with help of private caregivers. I am only family in area and I have cut back but still need someone 6-8 hrs a day and Mom is running out of $ and I am afraid I will need to put her in a nursing home. She is 93 and was a WAC in WWII. The VA has done a lot for her but they do not provide extended care except for a hospice situation, even tho the contracted nursing agency has considered her to be. She is very weak. I'm wondering whether I am doing the right thing keeping her in her home as long as possible, even tho this is her wish. I have not been approached by any social worker about possible long term solutions. I've looked at the Indiana home and it appears to be quite expensive, even for veterans. Any help or consult would be helpful and appreciated.
