QUESTION

WHAT CAN WE DO?

Asked on Oct 01st, 2020 on Elder Law - New York
More details to this question:
What do we do when you have a grandson living in your home (he wants to purchase it) but refuses to let us have it appraised. He had it appraised about 3 years ago and now is threatening to sue us. My husband will be 94 the 1st of Nov. and I am 85. He tells us we can't do anything. He wants to purchase it a low price. It is an apt. house(3) on Park Place and has been living there, renting with B&B for summer track people. Last year is the only year he has paid me anything. When we found out about the subletting,we told him we would take half. We found out about it and now said he is not giving us anything.

Don't sell.  Sue.  Based on the facts you have presented, he has no grounds for a suit.  You do. While you are at it, look at your Wills and make sure he will not inherit by stalling.
