QUESTION

Should I sign an executor form if it says the funds have already been received?

Asked on Sep 11th, 2011 on Estate Planning - Florida
More details to this question:
My grandfather passed a few months ago. His lawyer (in NY) has asked me to sign an executor's release form. The problem I'm having is the lawyer told me this form needs to be signed before the funds can be released to me but the form states I've already received the funds and I release the executor and the law firm of any further obligation to me. I don't know what to do exactly but I don't think I should sign this. I'd appreciate any help.

You should hire a NY lawyer to advise you on this. Generally you should not sign a full release unless it specifies what you will receive or how it will be calculated.
